Rony Abovitz, President & CEO, Founder
About Rony
Rony Abovitz is a serial inventor and visionary leader known for introducing technology that pushes the boundaries on what is possible. Today, he is the Founder and CEO of SynthBee, building safe, scalable, and reliable Collaborative Intelligence™ that amplifies human innovation–accelerating breakthroughs across the most pressing scientific, engineering, and design challenges.
Passionate about imagining and creating, Rony has spent more than three decades turning ambitious ideas into entirely new technology fields and category-defining businesses. In 2004, Rony co-founded MAKO Surgical, where he built a manifestation of a new ideal of people and machines–pioneering robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery, now a field of study called Cobots. Since founding MAKO Surgical, the idea of intelligent systems being safe by design–safe to work with people, to be around people, and safe for our future–has remained a core principle for Rony. Following MAKO's acquisition by Stryker Corporation for $1.65 billion, in 2011 he founded Magic Leap, the world's most influential spatial computing company, where he helped advance the convergence of advanced intelligence, computer vision, graphics, sensing, and human-computer interaction through innovations. Prouducts launched there are currently in use at Fortune 500 companies, major universities, hospitals, developers, defense, and governments around the world.
A two-time World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, Rony extends his entrepreneurship and leadership lessons well beyond his own organizations, inspiring the next generation of leaders and learners. He frequently speaks at renowned universities and technology conferences on the future of intelligence, and serves as a Senior Advisor at Boston Consulting Group, counseling CEOs, growth-tech founders and government leaders in areas of deeptech, medtech, biotech, telecommunications, games/media and overall innovation.
Rony holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Miami, where the earliest ideas behind MAKO Surgical took shape. Today, South Florida is home to SynthBee’s headquarters–the same backyard where his journey as an engineer and entrepreneur began. In 2025 SynthBee brought its Collaborative Intelligence platform into the University’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering curriculum, giving aspiring engineers early, hands-on exposure to the technology reshaping their field. This partnership reflects Rony and the company’s ongoing commitment to invest in top talent and to transform the community into one of the country’s most influential tech-hubs.
